Organising products in size order
Submitted by annaplatt on Sun, 04/11/2018 - 19:17
Hi - not sure if I am going to explain this correctly but I would like to have preventatives in size order making them easy to find when we search for a product
ie
revolution <2.5kg 3 pk
revolution 2.6-5kg 3 pk
revolution 2.6-5kg 6 pk
revolution 5-10kg 3 pk
revolution 5-10kg 6pk
currently they do not appear in logical weight order and if I try to double space to make a product go down the list it does not save with the double space.... I have attached how revolution looks on our system.
Thank you ! Anna
Re: Organising products in size order
Hi Anna,
I can't see an attachment, but the order of the products should depend on the naming convention you use. This is how we name the revolution and it is fairly logical I believe.
We also use the barcodes within the product identities for all OTC products (especially food) and they need to be invoiced using a bar code scanner. This has significantly reduced our incorrect invoicing of similar products.

Re: Organising products in size order
Thanks David.... yes we have a scanner, recently added another for the very same problem! But it does my head in that the products are not in size order.
I will give it a go arranging them like you do - also I did try to attach the image to the post but could not - did you just copied and pasted?
Thanks Anna
Re: Organising products in size order
Hi Anna,
Yes - I just copied and pasted. Or you can add an image as an attachment.
Cheers
Re: Organising products in size order
Thanks I tried both - must be me.... also I am struggling to get the same order as you... cannot seem to move the 5kg pkt up under cat revolution!
Re: Organising products in size order
When sorting on Name Revolution Dog 5Kg is going to appear beneath Revolution Dog 10Kg as the character '5' in '5Kg' is greater than the character '1' in '10Kg'.
To force the ordering you want, you can prefix it with a '0'.
E.g.:
An alternative is to ignore the ordering altogether and charge Revolution using a weight-based template.
I.e create a Product Template named 'Revolution Dog' that lists each of the revolution products for dogs, and the weight ranges that they apply to. Users then charge 'Revolution Dog' and the appropriate product will be selected based on the patient's entered weight.
Re: Organising products in size order
Thanks I really do not want to use templates but wondering how David from Adelaide vets can get the 5kg revolution above the 10kg revolution and is not using 05kg?
Thanks Anna
Re: Organising products in size order
Also I am struggling to get any order to the other preventatives..
Re: Organising products in size order
I suspect I know what David has done ...he has removed the `propercase` assertion from the product.merchandize archetype ...which will allow him to insert a double space in a product name. This would move it to the top of the list .... The interesting thing at least for now - is that the list display (ie product list) strips the extra space BUT still leaves the item correctly ordered so
1. Remove Propercasing from the archetypes in this case you want product.merchandise.
2. In the product names you want at the top use spacing.
ie
Note the 2 spaces before the 2 and the 5
Re: Organising products in size order
One of the sideeffects of propercasing is that it wont allow multiple spaces in row , among other things
Re: Organising products in size order
Hi,
It may not look pretty - but I suspect would be effective...
FLEASTUFF 01 - 5kg (3M)
FLEASTUFF 02 - 10kg
FLEASTUFF 03 - Etc etc
?
Re: Organising products in size order
Thanks - I think we will try to get double spaces - as 01 as I feel it will sometimes be read as 10 - even by me!
Re: Organising products in size order
Let me know if you need a hand sorting it out...
Re: Organising products in size order
Thank you Ben, I would love some help ... I can find the archetype for the product.merchandise but cannot see where to remove the propercasing - as when I go into edit I cannot seem to find it? I think I will also remove propercasing from medication - is there any negatives in doing so?
Thanks Anna
Re: Organising products in size order
To remove propercasing:
1. Administration - Archetypes
2. Search for the archetype in this case product.merch
3. Find the node called 'name'
4 Scroll down until you see the tabs for assertion Descriptors and look for a type
descriptor assertion - it will have `propercase` in the name field
SIDE EFFECTS
You will lose all autocapilizations and spacings going forward all existing names wont be affected but when entering new products you will need to capitilize and space correctly
Re: Organising products in size order
Thanks Ben - have managed to do that for merchandise and medications, but you mentioned that it will not affect existing products on the computer..... so how do I manage to correct the existing ones? Also given that when we get a new product we copy an old does this mean my issue with logical order of products will never be resolved?
Sometimes OPEN VPMS is not easy :(
Re: Organising products in size order
Hi,
Anna - Basically once you have turned propercasing off you then need to go and edit any existing products that you have not done the "double space" thing to. Anywhere you have done the double spacing - you should be fine.
If you are adding new groups of products that need to be in order you will need to ensure the double spaces are in the correct space to ensure logical ordering happens.
On that note.
Tim A -
This issue does seem to crop up from time to time. Can we consider adding the following for "future projects"
1) Propercasing On/Off should be a practice level option that people can just turn on/off.
2) Product Order Groups - A way to create easy ordering groups without having to stuff around with spaces and the such. In my mind this would work by being about to select a number of products in the Products screen. You could then press a button "Order Products". Then specify via the up/down method the order those products appear in searches. Note: This is just a suggestion - I am not really concerned how this is achieved but it does seem to be a common problem and we would use this for issues such as those that Anna is having and some others.
Cheers,
Adrian
Re: Organising products in size order
Actually I think with Propercasing the issue is mainly that we might want some but not all of its features...making it a setting might be helpful in the same way we can customize colors etc.
Anna give me a call number below and I can discuss you options and how this change affects you moving forward..
Sincerely
Re: Organising products in size order
Hi Ben, sorry I did not see this note until now.... I have been using the propercase on our products and seems to be working well and has remained that way even with an upgrade from Tony....
I am happy at this stage. Thanks Anna
