Questions about Updating Versions

1. Is there an easy way to see what version of OPENVPMS is installed (without opening up OpenVPMS)?

2. When I upgrade versions, do I need to apply each update sequentially or can I simply replace whatever is currently installed with the latest version?

3. What does archload.exe do? You put directions to run it in the upgrading instructions without explaining what is happening.

4. What are the possible causes for The requested resource (/openvpms/app) is not available.??

Your help would be much appreciated.

Re: Questions about Updating Versions

Lyn:

1. What version - go to the folder <Tomcat-Home>\webapps\openvpms\WEB-INF\classes\META-INF and look in the one file in that folder, org.openvpms.version.properties

2. Upgrade from old versions:  section 2.2 of the readme.txt says

 2.2 Release compatibility
The following table shows the upgrade path to the current release:

 From version Remarks
1.7 (earlier build) As per steps 2.3 and following
1.6 As per steps 2.3 and following
1.5 As per steps 2.3 and following
 1.4 and earlier See 2.8

3. archload loads the archetypes for the new release into the database (which prior to running archload will contain the archetypes for your previous version).

4. reason for "requested resource (/openvpms/app) is not available": I would check that you did section 2.5 of the readme correctly.

Re: Questions about Updating Versions

Hi Tim

I have successfully upgraded from 1.3 to 1.6.2 using the readme here

http://www.openvpms.org/fileuploads/readme.txt

However, the required information shown above is not contained within the readme.txt of the downloadable archives of version 1.5, 1.6 or 1.6.2. Please update the archives with the above information or link to these instructions on the front page so that people know what to do.

Thanks

Re: Questions about Updating Versions

Lyn - since 1.7B1 was released yesterday, and you did not say that you were upgrading to 1.6.2, I assumed that you were upgrading to 1.7.  As you might have gathered from my referring to sections of the readme.txt that are not present in the 1.6.2 readme, the readme has been significantly improved in 1.7.  Given that you have just been through the upgrade exercise, we would appreciate any feedback on the 1.7 readme which I have attached for your information.

Re: Questions about Updating Versions

(this is Lyn's tech support)

No problem. Upgrading to 1.6.2 with the newly updated readme was very straight forward (I was avoiding upgrading to 1.7 until a stable version release). It would be good to have 1.6.2 packaged with the new readme version at least before 1.7 has reached stable release as the readme currently packaged with it is inadequate and unlikely to have enough information for those without prior upgrading experience.

The new readme is excellent, no complaints at all.

Re: Questions about Updating Versions

Lyn/tech - thanks for the feedback.

Tim A - I have attached a version of the 1.7 readme.txt backported to 1.6.2.  I suspect that you will not want to update the 1.6.2 release package, but at a mimimum you might want to replace the version that Lyn and her tech found in the file uploads directory.
