Export button should download a csv file with the data you need for merging ...

Hi Glen,
Here is a link to some information thatt may help you work out how to email to the customers using your exported list.
In regards how to do this with google apps as your mail service I believe you just need to setup your mail merge settings (referred to in the link above) to use the google apps smtp server settings in the Outgoing server settings section.
The great thing about this is you dont need to have a Windows email client liek outlook etc to be able to send emails ou tof open office.

Hi Glen,
I believe for google apps the smtp server is smtp.gmail.com and the port is 587. Click secure connection(ssl). You will need to click server authentication and click the outgoing server requires authentication and enter a valid user name and password.
Save all this and test and things on the email side of open office should be setup.
