Reminder Documents - sent as email - no attachment required

So we use JRXML files to provide email content for reminders - we don't really need an attachment...but reminders require a document attachment?  Is there any way around this limitation?

This is supported through the Reminder Configuration

Untick the Email Reminders as Attachments option:

When selected, emailed reminders will include the reminder details as an attachment.

When deselected, the reminder detail will be included in the body of the email. The Email Template is responsible for including the reminder detail.
