Remote printing

Hi

I have a client running openvpms, looking to expand it to his next store, is remote printing possible? I read the documentation for the printer install and it states the printer should be local or a network printer, but being a remote site the printer is not visible to the server. Is it possible to print or would they need to print to pdf and then print each time?

Re: Remote printing

Depends how you want to conduct the expansion..and where OpenVPMS is hosted...Typcially you could just VPN the sites, that way all resources at each would be available to all clients/servers

Re: Remote printing

Hi

no vpn basically so no other way?

Re: Remote printing

Oh so they can preview and then print to anything they want that should be fine for now

Re: Remote printing

I am just going to put this out there .... I would strongly advise against opening Port 8080 through the firewall to all IPS...at the very least if your going to do that.  Setup SSL on your tomcat server and open 8443.

I know vets are probably not big targets on the scale but quite frankly anyone who runs a firewall that tracks scans or syn hits daily will know that everyone is getting hits daily.  Once someone detects your running unencrypted Tomcat....they only need to try and work out what services your running and then try the default passwords.

Re: Remote printing == VPN

To add to the original topic - we run 3 physical locations linked by VPNs. We use Sonic Wall TZ200 series routers, but I am confident that there are less expensive routers available that will do the same job. There are 3 subnets, 192.168.1.x, 192.168.2.x and 192.168.3.x, one for each building.  The servers (OpenVPMS & file) live in building 2 and there are printers in all 3 buildings.
