Supplier Communications Log

Although it is relatively simple to generate and send an email to a supplier via the Supplier|Information screen, these emails cannot be logged in the same way as customer emails are.

Given the relatively small use of emails to suppliers, it is not really worth equipping the supplier workspace with the same facilities as the customer workspace (ie a left panel with contact information and links to mail and sms the supplier, and a comms log facility that mirrors the customer comms log).

However, a simple solution is to provide the ability to define a special customer used only to log supplier emails. This is akin to the special customer used to handle OTC transactions.  It is suggested that we be brutally crude and hard code the special customer name as !!Supplier. When Supplier|Information is used to send an email to a supplier, the system will check if the customer !!Supplier exists and if so will log the communication.

Whist I agree that a proper Supplier Left Panel and Comms Log is the 'elegant' solution, and my !!Supplier approach is rude and crude, I am wary of asking for the proper solution because the facility will be of little use to most users and thus I see little prospect of the elegant solution being funded.

Note that this post has been the result of our Logistics Manager asking for the ability to record emails to suppliers because when they say 'I did not receive that email', he has no record of whether or not he did email them.

Comments please.

Re: Supplier Communications Log

Almost every email service that I use records outgoing mail, when it was sent and whether it was delivered...the other option is upgrade your email service to one that does this...

Sendmail does it so does Gmail
