Use of SNOMED terms in EHR

Hi Everyone,Just curious, any current users of OpenVPMS use SNOMED terms in their electronic health records?  Would there be a want of this type of feature?-- Albert T. WongVetAnyware, Veterinary Business Software Solutions

Re: Use of SNOMED terms in EHR

For people who are not familiar with SNOMED or LOINC or the state of Veterinary standards in electronic health records.   Here's a good paper written about it.//research.wsulibs.wsu.edu:8080/dspace/bitstream/2376/1461/1/Case%20Status%20of%20Animal%20Health.pdf">http://research.wsulibs.wsu.edu:8080/dspace/bitstream/2376/1461/1/Case%20Status%20of%20Animal%20Health.pdf On Sat, May 23, 2009 at 7:42 AM, Albert T. Re: Use of SNOMED terms in EHR

Re: [OpenVPMS Users] Use of SNOMED terms in EHR Hi Albert, I am aware of SNOMED and LOINC and have done some work with some Australian Universities trying to get a usable coding scheme in place.  The problem is not the coding scheme in itself but the ease of use for clinical staff and integration in the medical record system.   Without this it would not be utilised consistently negating any analysis benefits. During data entry there would need to be an integrated interface that allowed quick and easy search  and direct entry into the clinical record.  The entered data has to be visible in text format but “coded” underneath to facilitate the analysis as described in the document.  I understand the SNOMED search interface comes at not an inconsiderable cost although that may have changed.  It was also a separate interface from the Medical Records system and difficult to integrate.  Again that may have changed.
