Version 1.4

Hi Tim, Tony and Co... :)

I have some clinics who are looking forward to some of the features allocated to V1.4 and are enquiring about proposed release date. Is there any tentative date available yet for the release of V1.4?

Cheers

Re: Version 1.4

Hi Gerrie,

I don’t believe we can actually give any indication of release date at this stage as a number of the development tasks that have been currently slated for version 1.4 have not reached a fully funded status.

In previous releases the majority of the funding was internal so we can develop , tests and release on a specific schedule.  Now that changes need to be funded or contributed we are unable to control the overall release timelines.  We can just manage the development and testing phases.

The only other thing that can be done is make some decisions on which JIRA’s are going in which release.  This is something for the community to decide of course weighing up timelines against features released.   Also need to remember that the actual release process takes time that would generally need to be funded by OpenVPMS internally as it doesn’t actually manifest as a fundable project.  We therefore have to make financial decisions as the number of releases we can do each year.

If users are interested in getting their hands on specific completed and tested projects the other option is to release patches to existing versions.  Again has some development and documentation cost but gets individual new features out quicker.

Cheers Tony

Re: Version 1.4

At the moment there are two active development projects in funding stages.

I would like to see these features in the 1.4 release. As Tony says every release actually incurs a cost to OpenVPMS that must be met, currently from OpenVPMS treasury. Its fair to say that treasury has limited resources and the number of releases will likely need to be kept under control. We might even need to create a "release" project at the end of a versions development cycle  to get it out there.

It seems a frustration and a slow process I'm sure but I would remind the user community as  a whole, that currently we have a limited number of development contributors. If the balance between provision of ideas and contributions were to equalise somewhat, the development cycle would significantly shorten :)

Sorry to be shaking the can once more....

Cheers,

Matt

Yes, we all need to contribute.
