VPN ADVICE FOR P.C

Last year I had problems with the VPN connection via windows. At that time a consultant solved the issue but as I use window not mac it was a bit of a time waster for them. There was some sort of setting within windows that you had to find and adjust.

I now have another laptop I want to set up to access vpms when out of office. Again it is a pc not mac.

Can you suggest a Sydney based expert who could assist. All the VPN businesses seem to be large scale and not interested in small user. Amazon is useless in terms of assistance  and I will consider going to another vpn providor if feasible.

Re: VPN ADVICE FOR P.C

Hi Tony - I did not see this email. Thanks. I did not want to bother you with non vpms/ pc problems. I hope to get on to my vpms issues as soon as able and will be in contact.

I think I emailed you about a similar problem.  Could I have the same document perhaps?

TIA

Re: VPN ADVICE FOR P.C

Hi Garry,

This is for cloud server VPN's.  Unfortunately not applicable to local server access. As suggested needs advice from your IT company :-)

Cheers

Re: VPN ADVICE FOR P.C

Hi Christopher

Hope this helps ….. A clinic setup using Hamachi to access remote servers!

At the clinic my daughter owns they have been using LogMeIn Hamachi for a number of years to give VPN remote access to their local clinic servers.  With Hamachi, you pay a yearly subscription fee, (something like $75 US a year for 32 VPN clients), and the VPN service runs in the US.  You install the Hamachi client on the server and any PC or other device you want to access it from.

Depending on how it has been configured you can register new machines on your VPN network through the client directly or via the Hamachi Management console Web interface. Once the server and PC client are registered if Hamachi is running on both machines then you have access to OpenVPMS.  There are Hamachi clients for PC, Mac and Android devices as a free download so no matter what staff use they can get access if necessary.

I think the clinic has been running it now for nine or ten years with no issues.

Email if you want any other information Des.Thornton[at]westnet.com[dot]au.

Cheers Des
PS I have nothing to do with Hamachi I am just the Dad with an IT background who helps out.

Re: VPN ADVICE FOR P.C

Thanks Des,

With Tony's help I managed to connecdt the second laptop. Now I want to get another laptop - this time a Mac on. But I am checking out the topic of VPNs in general. I use Amazon but I am nout sure on how it compares in costing. The customer service so far has been very dense unless you work in IT.

I also like getting service from human beings and Amazon in general seems to avoid all human contact. I recenty had a problem with my kindle and it took about 3 hours to find someone in US to actually speak to. It is quite sinister to me - but then I am becoming an old fart...

In any case the amazon AWS VPN is costing me about $80 - $90 AU a month. To get more customer service athey push you towards a monthly add on service - about 30.00 a month. That is US$ which is another Amazon rude trick because it is easy to forget the exchange rate.

When I get time I will send you an email. This is just to see if other people have any comments.

Overall I really like having the cloud based version and Tony from Vertical Connect was correct in suggesting this option. It gives me good flexibility because I run a part time practice and do other work. I have logged in from Singapore and it worked well.
