Web Page/Other contact needed
I am converting an RxWorks system. In that the Supplier details record includes a Web Page slot.
I can fudge this in by putting the web address into a contact phone number and setting the name to 'Web Page'. This then displays nicely, ie in the contacts list one sees:
Location | 123 Smith Street, Mytown |
Phone | 5678-9876 |
Web Page | www.supplier.com.au |
However, its not obvious to the standard operator that when adding a Web Page contact, one requests the addition of a new phone number.
I do not think that we should add a new contact type for web page addresses, but rather an 'other' type that contains an editable name slot and a value slot. Then one could use this for web page addresses, facebook addresses, etc etc.
It would be logical to add this new 'other' contact type to at least suppliers, practices, practice locations, and (supplier) vertinary practices. However, I see no downside in adding it to all archetypes that currently have contacts - a customer might want to give you their twitter address so you can tweet them when Rover is ready to go home.
The sexy thing would of course be to display the value (if it looks like a URL) as a clickable link so that one could just straight to the web page.
Regards, Tim
Re: Web Page/Other contact needed
It would be simpler to have a separate contact.url archetype which has an editable name and URL node.
You can create this yourself, but for the link to be clickable requires a code change.
