Label printers

Hi,

I am looking at getting a stand alone label printer, does anyone know if the Brother models (QL550/570 or others in their range) work using the standard print driver?  It sounds as there maybe issues with the Dymo printers (hinted at by vetmpcosta).

The only standalone model I have used in my travels used to be an expensive little beast to run and had a mind of its own spitting out extra labels when it felt like it (cant remember the brand).

Any observations/recommendations.

Thanks Geoff

RE: Label printers

Hi Geoff,

Haven't used the Brother printers.

Have used Dymos originally but they changed their firmware so will only accept Dymo labels so cannot use standard thermal Vet labels any more. Some versions (Duo) still work but newer revisions may not so not worth the risk.

To replace Dymos have used Seiko SLP-440 which are small and relatively cheap but seem to work very well. Not quite as fast as Dymo though.

In general you do get what you pay for and these style of units are not very robust and you need to be careful while ripping labels. Be prepared for them to break in the rough hands that can be around a veterinary clinic :-)

For a more robust unit you need to look at the Zebra printers although they are probably twice the cost of the ones mentioned above.

Hope this helps ..

Cheers Tony

label printing on Seiko 440 slp

Hi Geoff,

to day we have bought a new Seiko SLP 440 to replace out Epson LX 300 dot matrix printer which I have al lot of problem with , we could not set the size of the label and it would waste many labels before printing. So I looked at your comments and decided to try the Seiko but the issue I have is; when I try to print a label it will only print as portrait not landscape and it will not show the full details of main clinic (half cut)

I have tried to adjust the label printing under admin-template and size the label, change to landscape instead of portrait but did not print at all, it will only print under portrait but half of the label print still missing.

I have tried to play with the setting from the actual printer installed software but without any success

is there any way to get around this and how do we adjust the setting

Thanks

adam
