[Subscriptions] subscriptions, what is the total cost?

Looking at the FAQ's on pricing I can see that it will be based on full-time equivalent vets working in the practice. How will this be measured? For instance if I am the principal veterinarian working 55 hours per week and I employ two part time veterinarians who each work 15 hours per week will that be counted as 3 full time equivalents (85 hrs = 2 @ 38 hrs + 9 hrs "part thereof") or 2 FTE's (1 grossly overworked vet + 30 hrs)? Also if my business really takes off and I have four branch practices and employ 10 full-time veterinarians(plus myself) and 5 part-timers working an average of 20 hrs per week will I have to pay over $3,000 per year to use the software in my group of practices or will each branch pay a subscription in its own right? I think I am right in thinking that there are no up-front fees or fees for software upgrades etc......... Peter

Frightening examples

Pete, I hope you aren't describing your practice..... I would have imagined that 1 FTE vet is a vet employed as a full time salaried employee. I wouldn't imagine we would be that interested in counting hours in this regard. Part timers or casuals such as locums, a tally of average working weeks hours I would have thought would be applied. Example 1: I am the principal veterinarian working 55 hours per week and I employ two part time veterinarians who each work 15 hours per week I would have thought this would be 2 FTE - 1 foolish full time employee (38hrs) and 1 part thereof (30hrs) Example 2: I have four branch practices and employ 10 full-time veterinarians(plus myself) and 5 part-timers working an average of 20 hrs per week Here I would think it would be a tally of all employees of the purchasing business. We currently have no reference to physical location of the practices. (Nor should we I would think) For such a large group $3000 / year would be a considerable saving when applying per terminal licenses as in some other software licensing models.... It is worth remembering that the reason we decided on the FTE model was to; 1. Make computer software affordable for small clinics with low staff numbers. 2. Not penalise clinics that want to have many terminals running especially those clinics that split labour between branch practices and the like. What are other peoples thoughts?

I notice that the subscription formula has been published on the site. Looks very reasonable. PeterG

Subscription formulas

Yes Pete, The formula is available in the FAQ section under Pricing. Matt

Pricing seems fair

I think this is a far superior pricing system, compared with fee per terminal which some software companies charge. A one vet practice might have five terminals to sustain productivity and it seems absurd they are charged per terminal.

Re: subscriptions, what is the total cost?

For those of you on the users' list you will know that there was some discussion regarding subscriptions late last year. The matter was also raised at the presentations I attended in Melbourne. As a result of these discussions and the feedback from site members two changes have been made. 1. There is a flat per full time veterinarian equivalent rate of $250 per year. 2. A discount for supporters who take out a prepaid 5 year subscription. To see the latest subscription rates click on the subscription link at the top of the page. A number of people have already offered to take out 5 year prepaid subscriptions to help provide essential financial support to the project. If you are interested in being involved please let us know. Subscriptions will be opening up soon (remember that under the License agreement you need to be a subscriber in order to use the software, check out the FAQ's or place a query on this forum if you need to know more). Re: subscriptions, what is the total cost?

OpenVPMS is now opening up subscriptions for the 5 year prepaid or Early Supporter package. To reiterate the benefits of this package, the discounts provide two benefits to early supporters: 1. an overall 20% reduction in the 5 year subscription price 2. an ongoing 50% discount on the annual rate beyond the first 5 year subscription period. People who supported the idea on the users list have already received a subscription package by email. If you would like to become an early supporter, either because you want to start using the clinic software as soon as possible or simply because you would like to support our project please contact us and we will send you out a package.
