Getting ready for Friday's Meeting in Kensington
Submitted by Matt C on Mon, 04/12/2017 - 08:10
Hi everyone,
I'm really looking forward to meeting many of you on Friday. I've been trying to come up with simple ideas that I might like to see in OpenVPMS in the last few weeks. I've come up with a couple and hoped that by dropping them here, it might ferment some further creativity from imaginations of us all.
- System wide Email address book
- Image thumbnails in histories
- Optional tickbox on letter dialog that allows social media links
It needs to be optional. Not all letters should have "Like us on Facebook!" right? ;-)
I feel my imaginative juices flowing!
Cheers,
Matt
Re: Getting ready for Friday's Meeting in Kensington
Matt - system wide email addresses are already supported (from 1.9 onwards).
As per https://openvpms.org/documentation/csh/1.9/common/email - which says in part:
"For more flexibility, you can also either enter an email address (eg bloggs[at]gmail[dot]com) or enter all or part of a name (eg bloggs, fred or bloggs, or blo, or %,fred) and then press the Enter key. If there is a single match this will be filled in. Otherwise the Address Book screen will be displayed showing the matches. Note that as indicated by the last example, you can use % as a wildcard; %,fred will find all who have Fred (or Frederick) as a first name, whereas %fred would also find names (like Alfred,John) containing 'fred'. If you press the Enter key with the cursor positioned on an empty line, the Address Book will open showing all email addresses in the system."
(bolding is mine)
Re "Optional tickbox on letter dialog that allows social media links" would you not do this in the document template - after all a sexy letter template will already contain links to the practice website.
Re "Image thumbnails in histories" - I must be getting to be a grumpy old man - my personal feeling is doing this would take work and not be worth the return.
See you Friday evening.
Regards, Tim G

The email address book ... is awesome. How good when you say "I wish it does this" and than an expert says "Um, it does?" Thanks so much Tim.
Images, might not be too hard. A bit of ImageMagik.
We use images all the time and knowing what an image is of roughly before clicking can be pretty handy (and it looks pretty cool :-)
Re: Getting ready for Friday's Meeting in Kensington
Path results displayed in line as text or at least as PDF previews. We spend an inordinate amount of time copying and pasting these results into medical history notes.
yes to thumbnail previews.
Re: Getting ready for Friday's Meeting in Kensington
Hi,
This may be in one of the other posts, but does anyone have an idea of how many people are attending? Just need to know for catering purposes. My guess is ~20.
Also, does anyone have any dietary requirements?
I'm thinking of doing cheese/dips etc, Japanese sushi platter and drinks (soft drink & beer/wine?). That way everyone can nibble when they arrive and through the meeting.
If anyone has better suggestion or request, let me know.
Re: Getting ready for Friday's Meeting in Kensington
I'm estimating no more then 15 peeps Greta :-)
Cheers,
Matt

Copying from notes without having to open them.....
Re: Getting ready for Friday's Meeting in Kensington
Like it. You mean like a Copy button at top of note that puts contents it straight into clipboard?

Re: Getting ready for Friday's Meeting in Kensington
while that too would be nice. no, what I mean is that currently, lets say I want to copy part of a medical note (a set of medications for example that i just want to transfer to the current note). I currently have to edit the note that I want to copy from. Select the text. Press Ctl-C. Then exit the note, open up the new note... etc etc.
Would be great if I could in the Patient - Medical Records - Summary screen. Just select text and copy.

Got it :-)
