How to display a screen 'capture photo' of issues in openvpms

I think this program has been mentioned before on the openvpms website but I'll make a plug for it again .... If you would like to show a snapshot of what you are seeing on your screen, you can quickly capture a 'photo' with a free program called Jing (http://www.jingproject.com/). With this program you can add comments in balloon boxes, highlighting and arrows etc. It is then possible to quickly paste your photo comment in a suitable email program (eg thunderbird) or have a link pasted in a forum post. In fact here is a link: http://screencast.com/t/4R8SiiImhW

How to display a screen 'capture photo' of issues in openvpms

Sandra @ Bellarine

Hi Keith,

Would this be easier than doing a 'print-screen' - saving it to word and then attaching that document to your forum post?

How to display a screen 'capture photo' of issues in openvpms

Sandra @ Bellarine

I have been looking at some of the documentation people have contributed to this website eg: 'Creating a New Appt for a New Customer' - and they look much better than the print screens that I do.  Is this package that you're referring to something that  could be used to make up those sort of documents? (you may want to take a look to see what I mean)  If so it may be something openvpms users could utilise to create documents and then provide them to this website?

Hi Sandra,

I believe these may have been created using a software product called Captiva which is now an Adobe product (was Macromedia).

Development of these started in a flurry in the early days but has died down. Having people develop more of these would be great for the community ..

Cheers Tony

using jing

Hi Sandra,

jing (http://www.jingproject.com/) can be used for this. It won't look exactly the same but still looks great. It's really simple to use and can also be used to capture video of your screen if you wanted to record that for documentation or getting help.

When you create a new documentation handbook page there is an in-browser editor to make it easy to format the page. To include a screenshot you just save the jing image to your desktop or wherever and then use the image upload button in the editor as indicated in this screenshot. I have created it with jing as an example:

(if you're reading this on the mailing list you won't see the image but if you visit the forums it will be there or visit http://www.openvpms.org/fileuploads/using wysiwyg.png)
