Patient Medication - no charge warning?
Submitted by Guest on Fri, 24/05/2013 - 09:36
I am about to install OPV in test mode in a practice running RxWorks. The practice manager is complaining that if her vets use the New|Medication transaction on the patient medical records screen, then there is no warning that this will not be invoiced.
How do others handle this? Plenty of education/Sin-bining people who do this/????.
It would seem that the number of times that one would want to give medication without charging for it would be low, and thus a 'Warning - this will not be invoiced' confirmation screen would not slow down things to an appreciable degree.
Comments?
Re: Patient Medication - no charge warning?
Hi Tim,
Maybe we should consider removing Medication from the New menu ?
How may users actually want to create a history medication entry without charging and if they did they could still charge at zero cost ?
Cheers Tony
Re: Patient Medication - no charge warning?
Creating historical entries for use when writing prescriptions is what we have done, however I think Tony has proposed a new prescription workspace...once this was implemented this button would be redundant.
Re: Patient Medication - no charge warning?
We create a letter for the prescription so then it is on the file anyway. I agree that you don't want to be able to add medications without charges
Re: Patient Medication - no charge warning?
the ability to add a new patient medication within the history is handy for when you change the recipe. We get it all the time.
eg Dog is on phenobarb etc, bloodtest indicates increasing dose.
Ring owner, you need to increase dose to XYX. Comment in history.
Add a new label/medication with the new recipe.
Otherwise it goes like this....
eg Dog is on phenobarb etc, bloodtest indicate increasing dose.
Ring owner, you need to increase dose to XYX. Comment in history.
Next time husband who knows nothing about doses etc comes in, no one sees the history comment about change of dose. There is no new label with the new recipe which jumps out at the nurses!
Gets dispensed with the old/lower dose instructions from the lable that did jump out at them.
Husband goes home and tells wife that dog is definately supposed to be on the dose that is on the bottle.
Dog starts seizuring a few weeks later
Wife comes in and tears strips off the vet
Re: Patient Medication - no charge warning?
I can pop up a warning dialog every time a new Medication is created via the patient history summary.
It would have text like:
"Warning: this medication will not be charged and stock levels will not be updated. Do you wish to continue?"
If this works for everyone I'll schedule it for 1.7.
Regards,
Tim

Tim - I agree totally with this solution. Regards, Tim G
Re: Patient Medication - no charge warning?
I have never used this functionality before from the New menu, but I agree having a warning message as above should patch the 'loophole' and reduce errors.
