Printing to sticker labels for envelopes

It would be great to be able to print client names/addresses to adhesive labels for vaccination reminders or envelopes (for newsletters). This would save addressing letters by hand. Is this function available, planned or not on the radar yet ?

It's even simpler to use window faced envelopes. You have to  fold the reminder/newsletter anyway!!   Regards,   Rob.   -------Original Message-------   From: jtvet@bigpond.com Date: 19/09/2008 12:11:02 PM To: users@lists.openvpms.org Subject: [OpenVPMS Users] Printing to sticker labels for envelopes   It would be great to be able to print client names/addresses to adhesive labels for vaccination reminders or envelopes (for newsletters). RE: Printing to sticker labels for envelopes

Hi Jim,

I agree that for vaccination reminders and any documents currently printed out of OpenVPMS the easiest approach is to use windowed envelopes.

If you are wanting to do bulk mail merges to a specific group of customers and or patients based on certain criteria OpenVPMS currently doesn't have a specific workspace for this but there are a few things on the horizon and some other options that may help.

Firstly we will be enhancing the Reports area to not only allow you to view and print the report output but to output in other formats (csv, spreadsheet etc) as well as merge with an template document. In this way specific reports can be made that output any kind of information from OpenVPMS and this information can be used to merge letters, labels or whatever you want.

The other option which you can use currently is to access the OpenVPMS database directly from Open Office or Microsoft Office. Both have sophisticated mail merging wizards that can utilise a range of databases for merge data. The customer name and addresses can be extracted by the mail merge functions in either of these applications and again used to print letters, labels etc. This approach is a little more complicated to setup and would require some knowledge of the database but is definitely possible and a good interim solution.

If someone would like to contribute some documentation on the web site showing users how this could be done I am sure it would be very much appreciated by the community ..

Cheers Tony
