Exciting news! The first beta of OpenVPMS version 1.4 is now available.

The developers have been hard at work and version 1.4 is now packaged up and available now as a beta release.

There are a ton of bug fixes, new features and improvements. Many of these are features which have been requested, discussed and then funded by the OpenVPMS community. There's too many to list here so have a look at the release notes(http://www.openvpms.org/14-beta-1) for all the details.

The release can be downloaded from http://www.openvpms.org/download

Electronic Ordering & Wholesaler Interface

Cenvet Australia are currently working on the process for Wholesaler Interface for OPEN VPMS. We are very interested in having the option of using electronic ordering available to the community early 2010. Cenvet are going to start the ball rolling and are pledging money for the work involved in setting up the interface and are interested to know if other users are also keen.

Subscription details

Hi Tony,

I mentioned last year that my invoice re subscription was dated paid up to 3/2011 when it should have been only to 3/2010. I just noticed that my account details
are still saying paid up to 2011. Might want to check that its just mine thats awry.

Thanks Geoff

Attaching an initial balance to a customers account

Hi,
I have been trying to figure out how you can attach an initial outstanding balance to a customer when you first add them to your database.
I can see where you can look at the initial account balance but not where you can input a figure for it.

Do I just make up an 'initial balance' invoice for each client who was in arrears prior to using openvpms for actual charging out.

Thanks Geoff

Getting a desktop experience with OpenVPMS using prism.

Hi Everyone,

I remember a while back someone asked about OpenVPMS being developed as a desktop program rather than a web application. I have been using a application called Prism which runs OpenVPMS just like it was a desktop program. My nurses probably don't know what a web application is, they just think that OpenVPMS is a normal program like any other because prism makes it that way.

Attaching large files within OpenVPMS

Hi,

Our receptionist has just tried to attach a scanned copy of a patients medical records to it's file. This is often done when clients move from one clinic to another and bring a copy of their records with them.

Dealing with a variable reminder period

How do people deal with variable reminder periods for a product or service reminder?

For example, proheart injection would need a reminder in 3 months if the dog is 12 weeks old, 9 months if it's 6 months old or yearly if it's >1 year old.

I've created a separate "product" for each situation but it would be better if you could make the reminder period interactive as it is applied so that it could be changed while charging rather than having to manually going in and changing it.

Printing one document to two printers

Just wondering if anyone knows if it is possible to print an open office document to two printers.
I am wanting to print my hospital forms (the first 6 pages) to the reception printer on A4 paper, and labels (the next 5 pages) to the label printer. Will save time attaching two documents to a patient.
I guess the other option is if it is possible to attach two documents to one template. ie template "hospital forms" have two documents "hospital forms.odt" and "patient label x 5".
Any ideas?

Migration from other software

I am the technical support person for a group of veterinary hospitals in the Canberra area, and we are currently considering moving from our current proprietary VPMS to OpenVPMS.

I have been asked by the directors about the advantages and disadvantages of migration, and I have explained the benefits of open source vs closed source. Since we are dealing with a number of practices, and a large database, the question about usability and maturity are hot topics.

Quite simply, what features are missing in OpenVPMS that you miss from other VPMS software?

Appointment types

Hi all,

I am trying to set appointment times so that we are not constantly getting overbooked with surgeries.

Currently our surgery bookings appear on the schedule in a surgery column. We have the appointment type set as "surgery" default which takes 1x15 min slot. I want to create a whole list of procedures with default times so that when surgeries are booked, we get to a certain time and cannot book any more.
